Silk/Satin Scarf v Silk/Satin Bonnet (Which do you prefer?)

Welcome to the romantic month of February I just had to get a post up today to welcome you into this month of love. I am sure that everyone that is a reader of this blog or that is knowledgeable about hair care generally would know that it is important that we protect our hair at night when we sleep. This is because the friction which occurs as we rest our heads on our pillows and toss and turn at night can lead to breakage issues and loss of moisture and generally more frazzled hair. However when you are able to cover your hair at night before sleeping its stays more moisturised/hydrated and it holds a style better.

You cannot cover/protect your hair with any fabric of your choosing such as cotton, nylon, wool and so on rather it is important to use silk or satin material to cover your hair as they are smooth and cause less friction on our hair. In the quest to protect our hair there are several options to choose from you can go either the scarf or bonnet route (there is also the satin/silk pillowcase). I just thought to make this post interactive to see what my blog readers favoured.  I will go ahead to list some of the pros and cons of both of them.

Silk/satin Scarf

Pros
Cons
It looks more attractive to me. I would rather go out with a silk scarf on my head than to be ever caught with a bonnet outside of my home.
It has a tendency to slip off your head while you are sleeping.
It ensures your hair looks smooth, intact and that your hair lies down properly. So if for example you want your bun to be extra smooth in the morning you can moisturise and seal your hair, put it up in a bun, tie your hair scarf and in the morning all of you have to do is to take off your scarf and you are good to go.

It washes easily.

Silk/satin Bonnet

Pros
Cons
It can keep a longer term protective style in place and is easier to wear when you have braids installed or any sort of extensions or if you are someone who has a lot of hair.
It looks more unattractive to me.
When you buy a good satin bonnet such as the one made by Dabs of Naija hair can grow, it will actually stay put and does not slip off at night.

It washes easily.

I think which a person prefers is a matter of personal choice. They are both excellent ways to protect your hair at night. I would like to know which of the two alternatives my lovely blog readers prefer and why.

  1. Scarves always. Bonnets can make you look grandma-ish.

  3. I love me some scarf, I don't like the feeling of the elastic around my head.

  4. I prefer the scarf. It makes sure that my hair doesn't move at all while I sleep.

  5. Another pro of bonnets is that they preserve the volume in your hair better than scarves. It really depends on the style for me as to what I prefer. Great post!

  7. I prefer to wear a scarf, but they ALWAYS come off overnight. I might need to switch to a silk pillowcase
